My mother had an actively destructive relationship with alcohol. She was brilliant and tormented, and unwilling to work at what she loved most, and it tore apart her life.

She was a frustrated writer, and from the time I was five years old she would tell me that I had no command of the language. Therefore from the moment I brought home my first homework assignment, she sat me down and dictated my school papers. If I did not write exactly what she said, she would go into upset and make me correct it immediately.

I didn’t know any better, so I assumed she was right. When I was 15 years old my mother died of alcoholism. That year I failed English in high school.

I always had a deep passion to tell stories. I loved heartfelt connections, and seeing characters grow and change. But because I was not allowed to write, I took to cards. I would make up stories around the deck I would work with, and I have to admit that it taught me that the cards only reflect an aspect of our internal intuitive self.

In my mid-20s, over 25 years ago now I had a near-death experience that resulted in Angels visiting me.

These different Angels would tell me their stories and I would write them down. Truthfully, an Angel wouldn’t go away until I wrote down their story the way they told it to me.
